Benchmarking Women's Leadership

I am hoping the Walmart women win that case. I am hoping that though government shouldn't enter into the private sector and tell them what and how to do things that this time they do. Private corporations need to be forced to treat women the same as men in the workplace and they do not. My company does not. I have worked for them eight years now and during this time have educated myself with my own money though they have tuition reimbursement. However it has to relate to your current position and not allow any grow. Kind of odd I know. What is the point of educating yourself to remain stagnant. I have my MBA and obtained that the summer of 2009. I am now working on my Doctorate. I was moved into a new position about three years ago and my pay is below our salary worksheet. I have addressed this with my organization and management team but it falls on deaf ears. My spouse was laid off from GM September of 2009 and spent about seven months trying to find work. He has 20 years management experience(I have 15) and a bachelors degree. I sent him possible openings within my organization and he obtained employment. The sad thing is and I am not putting him down is that he was hired making $15k more than me, same grade level, lesser job responsibility. So I pointed this out to my management team that they are discriminating against me because I am a female. Of course they downplay the whole thing. I have applied internally and last summer was offered a position that would give me a $15k increase however my manager told the hiring manager I was far too valuable and they wouldn't release me. So I lost that opportunity and the increase in pay. Of course I just let my management team have it and constructed a list of demands or I was quitting on the spot. They totally placated me and only increase my pay $5k. It is now almost a year later and I have applied internally yet again and not sure if my manager has made the same comments to this new hiring manager. So I am getting ready to battle once again. One time in a year ok I can overlook but two times in one year, no way. I am also doing my dissertation on gender discrimination in the health insurance industry and found some interesting information out. My spouse as I stated works for our company now and he was on the phone with two ladies the other day on his team. One has been with our company five years and has a bachelors and the other four years with a bachelors. The five year lady makes $42k per year and the four year makes $36k per year. As I stated my spouse only has a bachelors and has now been with us one year. He is also not a manager and on the same level as these two ladies with the exception that he makes $65k a year. So more data for my dissertation on how my organization is discriminating against women. I have other data from other departments and other employees both male and female and can clearly see women that are equally educated and do the same job are paid less. Even women that have greater education than a man and are at a higher level in the organization get paid less than the male population. Something needs to be done about private enterprise and their consistent discrimination against women.
