This brief, concise video chronicles the 72-year struggle of American women to achieve suffrage, which was obtained through hard work, dedication, and the organization of women throughout our country. The 19th Amendment enfranchised women on August 26, 1920, and now, on August 26, 2010, we celebrate Women's Equality Day, marking the 90th year of women's rights.
The video explores many of the pillars within the Suffrage Movement, including Angelina and Sarah Grimke, Susan B. Anthony, Lucy Stone, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. The video also documents Western states that led the way and won the vote well before passage of the 19th Amendment. On this 90th anniversary of winning the vote, NWHM honors our foremothers on whose shoulders we stand, those who had the courage and tenacity to fight the 72-year movement that enfranchised more people than any other effort in U.S. History.
