Stefania Lucchetti on Women and Leadership

Women in Finance Asia (WiFA) presents:

Stefania Lucchetti on Women and Leadership

Date: Wednesday February 23, 2011

Venue: Sponsored by Credit Suisse, 23/F Three Exchange Square, 8 Connaught Place, Central, Hong Kong

Over the last few years, a new paradigm of leadership has emerged. It is not based on completion of tasks but on awareness, empathy and teamwork.  The older models of leadership were based on warrior skills, the ability to accomplish goals through others by deploying power over others.

However, in the past few years, we have seen emerge a new leader’s personality blueprint.   The new model not only drives personal achievement and inspires others to follow, but also nurtures and develops a team spirit through attention to principles and each individual’s needs, preferences and boundaries. Consulting companies such as Mc Kinsey have been working on creating models which reflect this new approach, often referred to as centered leadership.

This new model, based on the philosophy of empowering others rather than deploying power over others, is developed through the balanced nurturing of physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual strength.

The new model of leadership is very much a feminine model.

And yet, women still hold a very small percentage of top leadership positions. This is true in Hong Kong as well, according to a research recently published on the SCMP.

Why does this happen and what are the key skills that women need to develop to project their core leadership skills?  These are the topics that Stefania Lucchetti will address in this session.
